Evacuation Order: Shetland Creek Wildfire

July 22, 2024 at 1030 hrs

A declaration of a State of Local Emergency was made on July 22, 2024 at 1030 hrs pursuant to Section 95 of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act due to Shetland Creek Wildfire within the District of Logan Lake, and pursuant to Section 107 (1)(c) of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act;

An Evacuation Order has been issued by the District of Logan Lake due to immediate danger to life safety caused by the Shetland Creek Wildfire, effective as of July 22, 2024 at 1030 hrs.

This Evacuation Order is now in effect for the Highland Valley Copper water intake on the Thompson River within the District of Logan Lake.

There are no residential properties within the District of Logan Lake that are impacted by this Notice at this time.

If you are in the described area, you must leave immediately. A person must not enter the Evacuation Order area for purposes of residing, occupying, or visiting the area.

What You Should Do:

  • To receive Emergency Support Services (ESS), please complete the following:
    • use the Evacuee Registration & Assistance tool: https://ess.gov.bc.ca/; and
    • report to the ESS Reception Centre, Merrit Civic Centre, 1950 Mamette Avenue, Merritt, B.C. (between 1200 to 2000 hrs)
    • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, keys) if they are immediately available. Take your grab-and-go bag if you have one prepared.
  • Transport pets in kennels or on a leash.
  • Close gate latches, but do not lock gates.
  • Turn off electric power sources, and unplug electrical appliances other than fridges and freezers.
  • Do not turn off your natural gas. FortisBC will turn off natural gas service as needed.
  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles than you need to.
  • If you require transportation assistance from the area, advise the person providing this emergency notice.
  • Arrange to stay with family or friends (if possible).

Emergency Support Services will only be provided if your primary residence is under evacuation order.
